Public support for President Bush has solidified in the early days of the war with Iraq, with two-thirds of Americans saying they approve of the way he is doing his job, according to a NBC poll published Sunday.

THE PRESIDENT'S approval rating of 67 percent in the poll of 516 adults conducted Sunday was up from 62 percent on March 17, two days before the first air strikes against Iraq. The percentage of Americans who disapprove of Bush's job performance also declined by 5 percent, from 33 percent to 28 percent, over the period.
The survey, conducted Sunday by the Hart/Teeter polling firm, also indicated that Americans believe they were well prepared by the administration for what to expect once the fighting began.

I'd like to know if anyone here has ever been questioned by one of these so-called "polls".

 

... compared to Bush Senior's approval rating of 80% during Gulf War I.

Since, historically, Americans rally around their President during War, the most relevent statistics would be those comparing his support to the support of other presidents in similiar situations.

I know Frank like the "facts".

Fat Frank - It's only going to go up. Especially now that the Chemical weapons factories are beginning to surface. However, there is a certain population who will hate Bush no matter what he does just because they voted for Gore.

Zogby (sp?) and Gallup are usually the trusted polling companies. Since then there have been these fragmented "splinter pollsters" that release quick-fire numbers at seemingly a moments notice, almost foreseeing the fact that someone might ask what Bush's approval rating is after the going gets rough.
Good idea, but can we trust the numbers. Also, 516 is a small segment. Perhaps too small.

The election is not for more than another year and Junior will be a one term president and remembered for being a tyrant and a failure who did more to supress the rights of the American people than any president in the history of the USA... It will take at least a generation to undue all that he took away from the American people including their prosperity and their freedom.

You seem to forget that stereotypical characteristics are that Repulicans are blind followers, simple kind of man, blue collar etc. and Democrats are the intellectual crowd.

Personally I had a strong dislike of Bush back when he was still Governor of Texas. Secondly I've never been a very big Gore supporter. My biggest problem with Bush Jr. is the damage to our image internationaly when we put such unintelligent men in office (at least his pops is a bright guy). Another is how much he likes the death penalty. Aside from that wanting to drill the Alaskan wild life reserve. And finally he started this war. I think that for those that are anti-Bush Jr. it has little to nothing to do with Gore.

 

Lastest Gallup Poll

Three-fourths of Americans support the war in Iraq, according to the latest polls, and many are demonstrating their solidarity with patriotic displays and yellow ribbons.

A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll found that 76 percent of U.S. adults, ages 18 and over, approve of the decision to go to war against Iraq.

That was up from 66 percent in a poll by the same organizations last Monday night.
